Built upon groundbreaking technology from decades ago — the cathode-ray tube. POPPI reimagines display technology through vector graphics, creating a playful and nostalgic experience inspired by vintage electronics.

While cathode-ray oscilloscopes are no longer practical for modern measurements and are often left to gather dust or discarded altogether, they retain a unique charm. With POPPI, we give this classic technology a new purpose.

From Lab Equipment to Playground

POPPI transforms vintage oscilloscopes into interactive vector displays. By controlling the electron beam directly, we can render simple vector graphics and create everything from classic games like Pong to new interactive experiences.

Unlike conventional pixel-based screens, vector displays draw images as continuous lines, producing a unique visual style and a different approach to graphics and animation.

POPPI includes a software environment focused on simplicity and extensibility to enable the creation of games, interactive art or entirely new projects with ease.

Vector Graphics

Thinking of images as collections of geometric shapes rather than arrays of pixels offers a completely different perspective on computer graphics.

Imagine an artist redrawing an entire picture for every frame of an animation. Now compare that to an animator who reuses existing drawings and only modifies the parts that actually change. Why redraw everything when only a small portion of the scene is different?

POPPI's vector display follows a similar philosophy. Rather than refreshing every pixel on the screen, it draws only the lines and shapes that define the image. The result is an elegant and efficient rendering technique that captures the distinctive look and feel of vintage arcade displays.
